I try to make wise fiscal decisions, but there are certain shopportunities that I cannot pass up. On Sunday, the Chicago Tribune featured an ad with two magic words: Burberry sale. Perfect timing, as I had to be in Chicago on Monday. My husband was meeting with Gieves & Hawkes for the final fitting on his made-to-measure suit.
After the fitting, we walked down Michigan Avenue to the temporary Burberry store (they will be opening a new five-level store this fall, which is supposed to be one of the largest in the world — get excited now). I started looking for the marked down Burberry London collection coats, but the selection was slim and the prices weren’t attractive. I rejected the Burberry Brit collection (made in China, no thanks). In the middle of the store, I saw two racks of the Spring 2012 Burberry Prorsum pieces. Dare I look?
I tried on a beige trench, but it was way too long on me. The sales clerk explained the runway coats are made for the um, super tall runway models. I started to think I’d be moving on quickly. But then I noticed a beautiful purple coat with a full skirt. I fell in love instantly. And unbelievably it was marked more than 60% off, making it cheaper than many of the Burberry London coats!
Obviously I don’t often spend that much money on one item, but I couldn’t say no. This makes up for the Kate Middleton/Burberry coat that I mistakenly didn’t buy in London. Now I’m kind of wishing for brisk London-like weather!
But it’s summer and getting hotter by the day. So I’ll look for ways to wear the silk zebra tunic top and botanical print shorts from the Trina Turk collection for Banana Republic. My hubby says we need to plan a Miami vacation so I can wear these new tropical clothes. Can’t argue with that…
